Presentation For the Bologna '98 General Chapter
23 July 1998

  1. Background Information
    1. OPnet Charter
    2. Services we currently provide
    3. Terminology for the internet.
  2. Suggestion Directions and Projects
There are two ways that we can think about the internet. Each suggests its own projects:
    1. The internet is new country to be evangelized.
      1. We need to be there! This is NOW. This is the FUTURE.
      2. Dominican Internet News
An inernet news service where dominicans from around the world can report and comment on their local situation, especially in the areas of peace and justice and religious news.
      3. Dominican Theological Resources on the Internet
A collection of theological articles on current topics accessable on the internet. People using the library, Dominicans and anyone else, will have access to high quality papers on a wide range of theological topics. It will be possible to search for papers on particular subjects, or containing a particular selection of words. Papers could be provided by Dominicans or selected from a wider source, perhaps eventually including members of other Christian churches, and other faiths.
      4. Dominican University on the Internet
People around the world could study using materials provided over the Internet, and by submitting their work to a professor using the Internet. This is similar to study at a correspondence university, except that the correspondence and all reading materials could be provided electronically.
    2. The internet is a darn handy way to communicate among ourselves.
Therefore we have some concrete suggestions to make.
