Dominican Sisters of Africa

Introductory Notes from the Coordinators' Meeting
26-30 April 2000, Nairobi, Kenya.

The members of the Coordinating Team of DSA send their cordial greetings to all Dominican sisters in Africa.

Present at the meeting were:

  • Christine Mwale OP, Coordinator, DSA
  • Petronille Kayiba OP, Justice and Peace Promoter
  • Mary Vertucci MM, Zonal Coordinator, Eastern Africa
  • Bernadette Tricoit OP, Zonal Coordinator, Central Africa
  • Aloysia Zellmann OP, Zonal Coordinator, Southern Africa

Sr. Mariette Rodriguez OP, Zonal Coordinator, Western Africa was absent, but sent in her report. We also benefited from the services of Claudette LaVerdiere MM, Maryknoll Sister, Nairobi, for the simultaneous translation. Scott Steinkerchner OP, our Dominican brother spoke to us about the internet and created the DSA journal on the internet.

The team analyzed the work done in the four zones of Africa and projected the work for the future. A General Assembly was planned for 16-20 of July, 2001 and will probably take place in Cameroon.

In preparation for the Dominican Family Gathering in Manila we gathered the work done in the zones and applied it more precisely to all of Africa. One step at a time, we move towards greater unity and collaboration in Africa around our charism. This is a source of great hope.

We thank and encourage all who labor to realize our dream of the Dominican Family in Africa.
