REFLECTIONS ON THE FANJEAUX EXPERIENCE

DSI NAMES NEW PROMOTER FOR JUSTICE AND PEACE

The Coordinating Council of DSI is happy to announce the appointment of Sr. TONI HARRIS as the new International Promoter for Justice and Peace for DSI. She will work with Bro Prakash Lohale and will succeed sr. Marie Therese Perdriault.

The Dominican Leadership Conference summarizes well Toni's many gifts:

“Toni will be an excellent Promoter. She will bring to this position a passion as evidenced by her commitment to justice and peace over these many years. Toni served as the first Justice Promoter for North America . Her long tenure working with indigenous peoples, her leadership both of her congregation and of the Dominican Leadership Conference, her membership in DSI, and her broad international experience will help her mission as JP Promoter for DSI. Her vision is broad, always expanding, inclusive and comprehensive. She works collaboratively and efficiently and possesses an excellent sense of humor and good grace.

Thank you, Toni and the Sinsinawa Dominicans!

News from Dominican Sisters of St Catherine of Siena

Happy news ! ! !

Dear Sisters, we wish you a very beautiful feast of St. Catherine, the great missionary in love with the souls!
We have a WONDERFUL piece of news to share with you: just on the feast of St. Catherine we moved to the new house. This is a very exciting experience much beyond our reach and understanding. After waiting for one and half year, how is it possible that we have to move to the new house just on the feast of St. Catherine? We have told each other that, as St. Catherine was always on the move, because she was an itinerant preacher, we, too, can spend most of the day along the road, in order to transfer our things to the new house. Though the distance from the old house to the new one is very short, yet the interior journey that we are having is very meaningful. The Lords wants us to go through a long period of formation, for the mission he entrusts to us. We are very thankful to God who has always been walking with us and guiding us according to His own plans. It is the experience of Exodus, slow but redemptive. Thank you very much for your prayers and love.  Later we shall inform you about how the things go on. We embrace you with love. Srs. Jamila and Razia

An Example to be imitated….

Casale Monferrato (Italia) - Our community with its apostolic mission of the assistance to the aged, has started a communication activity with the parishioners, by adding a page to the Parish magazine to let the voice of our aged guests be heard … let us listen to it:
" Perhaps not everybody knows that St. Dominic's Institute is situated in Via Pinelli since 1921! How many children have been growing within it, amidst the benches of the school, creating many still existing bonds and dear memory of periods in which we studied the world and learned to know the Lord with heart full of affection, which only children have.
How many guests have found in it a new family and loving cares, a help, a smile just when the age whitens the hair and solitude knocks at the door of one's own house.
Throughout all these years, the Dominican sisters have carried on their work on tip toes, with the spirit of sacrifice proper of a deep love for God and neighbours.
Many years have passed and now the school within the Institute has been closed down , the restructures of the edifice have modified the internal aspect and the personnel has gone on being re-placed by the laity. The spirit, however, is still the same: to be close to each single lady, to provide her needs, to offer smiles, to support in difficult situations, but also to joke, to dance and to laugh …"

Activity and recreation

" Dear Readers, you must know that in the afternoon of every Monday, the ladies, our guests, gather for the reading of newspapers. It is a time in which they are offered the possibility of exposing their problems, like the conviviality in the Institute, the events of the globe. It is the time to narrate some episode of their life or simply to exchange smiles and feel alive. One speaks to us above the love with which she cultivated his orchard, another of his youth, etc. However, two are the words that flow from their voice, change their expression, brighten their eyes marking their faces and their heart: 'house' and 'solitude' …

News from Iraq , Sister Sherine writes:

"All the sisters in Baghdad are keeping up well. They are very tired because they have evacuated Bishara's Convent to be taken by the Carmalite Fathers. All the sisters are in St. Joseph now. The Dominican friars with the Laity are all doing well. I met Zeyad Bunni at Al- Hayat hospital. He is in charge of the bulding of the Dominican complex which is constructed on Dijla's ground. A church, a residence for the friars, a residence for the sisters and clinics will be built. My love and prayers."
