The 1st Congress regarding the Order of Preachers which took place in Mexico, D.F. in 2013, established “a space for interchange, reflection and debate among the researchers, professors and students of different disciplines regarding the current state and the advances in the study of the history of the Order of Preachers in America”.

In keeping with this first event and in response to the ephemeris which is approaching marking 800 years since the creation of the Order of Preachers, the 2nd Congress aims to investigate and delve deeper in its history with regard to subjects which would lead to a better understanding of the Dominican presence, focusing on the origin, diffusion and organization with respect to its actors, institutions and artistic manifestations; the configuration of Dominican spirituality by means of foundations, missions, parishes, schools and universities; life’s itineraries and images of sainthood having to do with preaching; the political participation assumed in different scenarios and historical periods; philosophical and theological thought; economic activity and cultural patrimony.

Main Themes

1. Origin of the Order of preachers and studies regarding Saint Dominic.

2. Studies regarding the Order: history, missions, parishes, preaching, charisma and sainthood.

3. Education: schools and universities.

4. Convent life.

5. Participation in political processes.

6. Philosophical and theological thought.         

7. Economic activities.

8. Cultural patrimony.

 

Participation of Speakers

Those interested in participating as speakers in the different thematic round tables of the 2nd Congress should comply with the following requirements:

  1. Send in a summary of the paper before March 1, having a maximum of five hundred (500) words, in Arial size 12 typeset with one and a half spacing, together with the following information:
  • Author/s (maximum two per work).
  • Title.
  • Suggested theme/s.
  • University or institution of affiliation.
  • Nationality.
  • E-mail and/or contact address.
  • Brief résumé (maximum 200 words).
  1. Once the summary is approved by the Congress’ Academic and Scientific Committee, the participant will be informed by e-mail so that he or she presents the complete text before August 1, 2015
  2. The Committee will have until December 1, 2015 to approve or reject the complete text and notify the author(s).

The paper should be sent in PDF or Word format with a minimum extension of 3000 words and  a maximum of 5000 ( without including bibliography, images, graphics or foot notes), in Arial type size 12 lettering and one and a half spacing.

  1. The oral presentation time will be of twenty (20) minutes, in eight (8) pages of text.     

The cost and manner of payment, for speakers and for those attending, will be published in March of 2015.
