The Dominican Family Leaders’ Conference in the Asia Pacific Region had an Executive Committee meeting at Caleruega Retreat House, Batulao, Batangas, Philippines, last June 25 -26, 2013. Br. Vincent Lu Ha, OP (Socius of the Master for Asia-Pacific) presided over the meeting which was attended by Br. Joseph Ngo Si Dinh, OP (Prior Provincial of Vietnam and Coordinator for Friars in the region), Br. Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP (Prior Provincial of the Philippines), Sr. Mary Augustine, OP  (Coordinator for Nuns International), Sr. Mary Constance, OP (Coordinator for Apostolic Sisters in the region), Mrs. Marian Yip, OP (Coordinator for Asia-Pacific Council of Lay Dominicans) and Mrs. Belen L. Tangco, OP (Coordinator of Asia-Pacific Council of Lay Dominicans on the International Council and Secretary of the Executive Committee).

The Executive Committee discussed and finalized the activities of the Dominican Family in the region, namely, the Leadership and Formators Course in 2014 and the Jubilee Celebration in 2015, the “eve”  of the 800th Centenary of the Order in 2016. The Dominican Leadership Course will be held from February 24 to March 8, 2014, at Caleruega Retreat House, Philippines.  Proposed topics for this course includes: Servant-Leadership: Biblical Foundation of Leadership; Conflict Transformation (Resolution) and Healing; Canonical Issues and Procedures; Basics of Financial Management; Strengthening Family Ties; and Leadership for the New Evangelization.

The Dominican Formators’ Course follows immediately the Leadership Course, to be held at the same venue, from March 10 to April 6, 2014. Topics for the course will revolve around the main areas of Human Formation, Spiritual Formation, Pastoral Formation, and Intellectual Formation.

The executive committee also decided that the region’s jubilee celebration will focus on a spiritual preparation of the members of the Dominican Family on the “eve” of the celebration of the 8th Centenary of the Order’s confirmation in 2016. A Jubilee Retreat of the Dominican Family in the Asia-Pacific Region will be held in Manila, Philippines from October 12 to 14, 2015. According to Br. Vincent Lu Ha, OP, Br. Timothy Radcliffe, OP has already agreed to be one of the speakers. Br. Bruno Cadoré, OP, Master of the Order and some members of the Curia will hopefully grace the jubilee retreat. The meeting of the Dominican Family Leaders’ Conference (APR) will be held from October 15 to 16, 2015, right after the retreat.
