Echoes from the Leadership Workshop of the New Vice-Province of St. Pius V, DR Congo

As part of the passage of the General Vicariate of St. Pius V, Democratic Republic of Congo to the status of Vice-Province, its main leaders (vicariate Councillors, Priors / Superiors, Masters of novices and students, and syndics of the convents) were invited to a workshop on the theme "Community dynamics and sharing in an autonomous Dominican entity."

This workshop took place in the Convent of St. Dominic, Kinshasa-Limete, from 23 to 25 May 2016. The workshop was animated by our valued and experienced brothers Emmanuel Ntakarutimana from the Provincial Vicariate of Rwanda and Burundi, and former Socius of the Master of the Order for Africa, and Charles Ukwe, Prior Provincial of the Province of St Joseph the Worker, Nigeria and Ghana.

The 19 participants in this workshop took the measure of their responsibility towards the future and committed themselves firmly to be with their brothers as artisans of a strong and prosperous Vice-province at the heart of Africa. Meditative prayers at the beginning of each workday, interviews, discussions and debates, working in groups and in plenaries, all breathed a new era and manifested the desire to change, to turn the dark pages of our common history and to look to the future in a new way. In addition to the welcome and closing addresses which we will present in a special issue, the entire workshop was structured around six conferences with the following titles:

1. Celebrating the Jubilee of the Order as an opportunity for a new impetus to religious life (E. Ntakarutimana)
2. The quality of our life, heart of the organization of our Dominican mission. Common life as Dominican mentality (E. Ntakarutimana)
3. Mobilizing resources together (Ch. Ukwe)
4. For a responsible management of resources held in common (Ch. Ukwe)
5. Experience of managing a provincial entity (Ch. Ukwe)
6. Some thoughts on sustainable management of a religious community (Eduard Costermans)
All these conferences, and the conclusions of the plenaries led participants to identify some mechanisms that, from their point of view, could give effects to a common mobilization of the resources and a common management of the goods of an autonomous Vice Province of St. Pius V.
The solemn Mass celebrating the passage of the Vicariate General of St. Pius V to the status of Vice-Province is scheduled for Tuesday, May 31, 2016, the Feast of the Visitation, thus dedicating the life and evolution of this very young Vice-Province to the intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary.
