The First Religious Brothers Day - May 1, 2017

On May 1, 2017, the feast of St. Joseph the Worker, all are invited to celebrate the inaugural Religious Brothers Day. Religious Brothers Day is an opportunity to celebrate the gift of religious brotherhood to the Church and the world, to give thanks for Brothers in our own lives and the impact they have made, as well as to inspire and invite young people to consider the consecrated life and vocation of Brother.

Religious Brothers Day in an initiative of the Brothers Think Tank, an inter-congregational group of Brothers in the US who explore topics related to religious life and brotherhood, as well as brainstorm ways to promote the Brother vocation in the Church today. The Dominicans brothers in the US are members of the Think Tank

The Vatican document, “Identity and Mission of the Religious Brother in the Church,” invited the Church “to shed light of the identity of the Religious Brother and the value and necessity of this vocation.” Following that publication, a committee was formed to plan the celebration, which will include prayer services and tributes to jubilarian brothers from lay and mixed communities and institutes of apostolic life, as well as other activities that are in the works.

A prayer card was commissioned specifically for this celebration and focuses on the vocation of brothers—a gift given by God, received by the brothers, and shared with others.

All are invited to share in promoting Religious Brothers Day in your local context and on social media, using the hashtag #religiousbrothersday

Happy Celebration to all our Cooperator Brothers in the Order.
