IDYM Zimbabwe Mission October

IDYM Zimbabwe Mission October

For the missionary month of October, we as DYMZim carried out two charity activities. Our fist activity was to clean up one of the church offices at St John of Cologne Mass centre. We took the burden off the parish council by volunteering to clean the church office. We carried out this activity on the 8th of October 2016. As a way of doing charity work as well as acting upon one of our four Dominican pillars (Service), we used brooms and cleaning liquids to brush off the dirt of the office walls. This was a very tiring task but it brought us together as one strong group through good team work.

Our second activity for October was to clean up the graveyard in Chishawasha, a place where our departed priest, sisters, and brothers are laid to rest. This activity was carried out on the 29th of October 2016 in the Chishawasha cemetery. As a group, we took the responsibility upon ourselves to clean and maintain the graveyard in preparation for the ‘All Souls’ feast day. Above all, it was important for us to come together as young preachers to put what we preach into practise through cleaning up the cemetery. This cemetery is where all of our Dominican Sisters are buried; therefore it was truly a heart-warming experience for DYMZim. On the day, we swept the yard clean, and replaced all dead flowers on the graves with new fresh flowers. We also removed weeds which had grown around the graves and this is where most of our work was done. Before we finished, we watered some of the flowers and prayed for our departed priests, brothers and sisters. These two activities ignited fire in each and every member of DYMZim to give more to the communities around us not only financially but through giving our time to others out there.
