Inauguration of the Dominican Month of Peace in the Philippines

Inauguration of the Dominican Month of Peace in the Philippines

We are happy to share that the Dominican Month of Peace was launched yesterday (2 December 2017) at the St. Lorenzo Ruiz Parish Church, Dagatdagatan, Navotas, Metro Manila.

At 3:00 p.m , Rev. Fr. Butch Bombase (Asia-Pacific Coordinator for Justice & Peace) presided over the Eucharistic celebration, with Concelebrants Prior Provincial V. Rev. Fr. Napoleon Sipalay (Homilist); Rev. Fr. Victor Calvo (DPP Coordinator for JP), Rev. Fr. Dolfo Canceran, Rev. Fr. Pablo Tiong, (UST Vice-Rector for Religious Affairs), Rev. Fr. Bienvenido Trinilla, (Former JP Coordinator), and Rev. Fr. Ogie Quirao (Superior of St. Lorenzo Ruiz Dominican House).

The Prior Provincial gave an edifying homily that explained the rationale of the Month of Peace as initiated by the Master of the Order and the International Coordinators of Justice and Peace. The Dominican Laity and the Dominican Sisters served as Choir.

Before the blessing for the Mass, the Consul of the Embassy of Colombia, gave his words of thanks on behalf of the Embassy and Colombian victims of injustices and conflicts, for the gesture of solidarity the Dominican Family had shared and will be rendering.

After the anticipated First Sunday of Advent Mass, there were story-telling of grief and miseries by the families-victims of Extra-Judicial Killings whose siblings and parents disappeared and were found dead, mercilessly shot and were subjects of “mistaken identity.” Dr. Mark Abenir of the UST Simbahayan, moderated the sharing. There were responses of commiseration and support expressed by the Prior Provincial and other Members of the Dominican Family.

With lighted candles, A Prayer for Peace was made by all, led by Sr. Maria Luz Mision, (JP Asia-Pacific Coordinator) in a circle formed at the adjacent courtyard. The Prior Provincial gave the final blessing. An agape followed and it brought the celebration to a close.

The families joyfully received the announcement that on December 15, 2017, a Christmas party would be held in the said Parish for 30-40 families.
