The Joy of my First Participation in the Elective Chapter Assembly Mfou 2018

Such an important occasion enabled the Chapter Brothers of the convents and houses of the Provincial Vicariate of Equatorial Africa (VAE) to meet to elect the Vicar Provincial. This Assembly was held at the Spiritual Center of the Dominican friars under construction in Mfou, Cameroon, from 10 to 15 September 2018. It was punctuated by masses combined with lauds, vespers and meetings. Participating in such an assembly allowed me to discover more the Dominican fraternity. The fraternity was celebrated around debates, exchanges, recreations, and laughter, etc. This has fostered a climate of cheerfulness.

The day that was most remarkable for me was that of Wednesday, September 12, 2018, because, among others, during the Mass of the Holy Spirit, Brother Michel LACHENAUD, op, Prior Provincial of the Province of France, invited the chapter brothers to make a true choice so that the one who will be elected will be the servant of the brothers, or will listen to his brothers, whoever will bear the burden of the vicariate. That being said, the chapter brothers held the election of the provincial vicar, which was held in a peaceful atmosphere. Brother Jean Paul KAMAHEU, OP was re-elected provincial vicar of the Vicariate of Equatorial Africa for a term of 4 years.

Jean Paul Kamaheu, OP was born on January 26, 1974 in Bangang, Cameroon. He made his first profession on October 4, 1998 in Abidjan. He studied in Abidjan and Kinshasa. He was ordained a priest on September 10, 2005 in Douala. It was on the eve of the anniversary of this ordination that he was elected provincial vicar on September 09, 2014 for a first term, which was renewed on September 12, 2018. He accepted his office the same day after the confirmation of the appointment by Brother Michel LACHENAUD, OP. We wish him a good and fruitful ministry as Provincial Vicar.

Following the election of the vicar, the chapter brothers proceeded to the elections of 4 councilors and two substitute councilors. Fr Aristide BASSE, OP (1st Counselor), Fr Romain Eric KODIA, OP (2nd Counselor), Fr Ilitch EWOLO, OP (3rd Counselor) and Fr Sebastien NKOA AYISSI, OP (4th Counselor). The brothers Alain ZIBI, OP and Bertrand NDJANA, OP were respectively elected 1st and 2nd Alternate Councillors.

For me, the chapter meeting that took place at Mfou was a crucial moment for the brothers who made a fresh start with a common apostolic proposal and a revision of the Vicariate Statutes. This propositum which is formulated Theology and socio-cultural changes is intended as a federating and unifying instrument for the brothers of the VAE. May it

please Heaven that the fraternal and joyous atmosphere of these days spent at Mfou be a sign of what is targeted.

Indeed, an extraordinary atmosphere brought together all the brothers around the tables of recreation furnished with beers and others. Mfou, a beautiful place far from the city became a place where the brothers were in contact only with the chirpings of birds and insects. Mfou remains a place of hope for the future of our Vicariate of Equatorial Africa.
