With this inspiration, the Institute of Preaching of the Dominican Province of the Philippines facilitated the Ongoing Formation Program for the Renewal of Preaching of the Clergy of the Diocese of Parañaque, last June 23-27, 2014 at Club Balai Isabel, Talisay, Batangas, Philippines.

With Bishop Jesse Mercado, DD, in full attendance, more than sixty (60) parish priests and members of the diocesan clergy, participated in a modular course on preaching, as directed by Fr. Enrico D. Gonzales, OP (on the “Theology of Preaching”), Fr. Quirico T. Pedregosa, Jr, OP (On “Preaching the New Evangelization”), Fr. Filemon I. dela Cruz, Jr, OP (On the “Spirituality of the Preacher”),  Fr. Stephen R. Redillas, OP and Dr. Armando de Jesus (on a “Voices from the Pulpit: Priestly Preaching in the Diocese of Parañaque as perceived by Parishioners”) and Fr. Clarence C. Marquez, OP, Director of the Institute of Preaching (on “Scriptures and Preaching”).

A highlight of the modular course is a social-scientific study of the perception of parishioners about the homiletic preaching in the parishes of the diocese. The instrument was designed by Dean Armando de Jesus, Ph D, former Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the University of Santo Tomas (UST-Manila). The survey was conducted with the help of the lay vicariate coordinators and parish leaders of the diocese, with the data processed by the UST Research Center for Culture Education and Social Issues (RCCESI), and duly interpreted by Dr. De Jesus. The study served as the base document upon which the other topics of the modular course were developed.

With the gracious success of this endeavor, the Institute of Preaching hopes to reach out to other dioceses in the promotion and renewal of preaching.
