Novena of Prayerful Solidarity for the Dominican Family in Iraq
Body:

Two years ago, on August 6, 2014, hundreds of members of our Dominican Family (sisters, friars and laity), along with thousands of their Iraqi brothers and sisters, were forced to flee from their homes in the early hours of the morning, with little but what they could carry in their arms.  ISIS swept through the northern Iraqi Nineveh Plain that day with a vengeance.

The Dominican "Iraq Solidarity Committee" is planning a NOVENA of PRAYERFUL SOLIDARITY this July-August to show our Dominican Family in Iraq that they are not alone. The Novena begins on July 29th and ends on the Feast of the Transfiguration (the day they had to flee their homes in 2014).

A flier has been prepared for all who want to participate, accompanying our Dominican Family in prayerful solidarity on this tragic anniversary.  Do involve your local communities, parishes, campus ministries and lay chapters in this time of prayer and supplication, and feel free to invite others into this time of prayer.

We are invited once again to heed Isaiah's prophecy to "beat swords into plowshares" (Is. 2:4).

NOVENA PRAYER, DAILY INTENTION AND SCRIPTURE FOR REFLECTION

PRAYER: In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, when we also celebrate 800 years for Order of Preachers, open our hearts, Merciful God, to the needs of our Dominican Family in Iraq. Help us to be vigilant in our care and purpose on their behalf. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Christ. Amen.
