The end of the year 2015 was marked by three important events in the Provincial Vicariate of Rwanda and Burundi namely: the blessing of the new Chapel of the Dominican Brothers in Kanyosha (Bujumbura), the diaconate ordination of brother Ezéchiel Rivuzimana, and the official launching of the Jubilee of eight hundred years of the Order of Preachers. The three events were celabrated the same day, on Saturday 21st November 2015, during a Mass presided over by His Grace Evariste Ngoyagoye, Archibishop of Bujumbura, in the new Chapel of Kanyosha.

The celebration began with the liturgy of the blessing of the Chapel. His Grace Evariste Ngoyagoye consecrated the building which hosts the faithful of the two communities: Anglophone and francophone who pray with the brothers in the community Chapel that looked too small. His Lordship Stanislas Kaburungu, Emeritus Bishop of Ngozi (Burundi) took also part in the ceremonies. However, His Lordship Joachim Ntahondereye, Bishop of the diocese of Muyinga to which belongs brother Ezéchiel Rivuzimana, was not present because he had travelled outside Burundi.

The Dominican brothers of Rwanda and Burundi, the Dominican nuns of Rweza (Burundi), diocesan priests, Religious male and female of various congregations, especially, those working in Bujumbura Archdiocese, the members of the Dominican laity of Bujumbura took part also in these three events celebration. There were equally, some relatives of brother Ezéchiel Rivuzimana, without forgetting a huge crowd of the faithful who regularly worship at the Dominican community of Bujumbura.

After the blessing of the Chapel, brother Benjamin Ngororabanga, Superior of the community of Bujumbura, invited His Grace Evariste Ngoyagoye to preside over the Eucharistic celebration, emphasizing the other two events that were being celebrated during that Eucharist. Two choirs, both belonging to the Dominican brothers of Bujumbura, the Saint-Dominic choir (that sings in French) and the Saint Thomas Aquinas choir (that sings in English) animated the liturgy of the day.

In his homily centered on the text of the First Letter of Saint Paul to Timothy (1Tm3: 8-13), His Grace Evariste Ngoyagoye, explaining the role of a deacon in the Catholic Church, clarified the slight difference between the ministry of the diaconate of a married man (which was at issue in the text of Saint Paul that had just been read) and that of an unmarried man. Among other things, he said that although the two types of deacons recognized in the Catholic Church are called to “serve the People of God in the office of the liturgy, the ministry of the Word and charity, in communion with the bishop and his presbyterate," an unmarried deacon (the case of brother Ezéchiel) should make himself much available more than a married deacon because this latter would have other worries towards his wife and children, which would not be the case for an unmarried deacon.

After the speech of brother Sixbert Hategekimana, Vicar Provincial of the Provincial Vicariate of Rwanda and Burundi indicating the opening of the Jubilee of 800 years of the Order in the Vicariate, Bishop Evariste Ngoyagoye closed the celebration by wishing a holy and happy Jubilee Year to all the Dominicans and their friends. At the end of the Eucharistic celebration, everyone was invited to a reception at the size of the events of that day, in a place prepared for the occasion in the same site of Kanyosha.
