Three student brothers of the Irish Dominican Province were ordained deacons by the archbishop of Dublin on 16th February 2013.
The liturgy of ordination took place at St Saviour's Dominican Church, Dublin city, Ireland, with the assistance of many Dominican friars, parishioners and the family and friends of the three men.
Br Colm is originally from Birr in Co Offaly and worked with an international airline before entering the Order in St Saviour’s Priory, Limerick.
Br Luuk, originally from the Netherlands, entered the novitiate with Br Colm after having been baptised as an adult in Galway a few years previously. An engineer by profession, he had come to Ireland for postgraduate studies and then to work.
Br Matthew, from Trinidad where the Irish Dominicans have a mission, was the third man to enter the Irish novitiate in 2007.
Although the ordination ceremony was certainly unusual in being a triple one, it was the third time in recent years for three Irish Dominicans to be ordained deacons together. In January 2008 and January 2011 there were also triple diaconate ordinations at St Saviour’s, Dominick Street - Frs Fergus Ryan OP, Declan Corish OP & David Rocks OP in 2008; Frs Denis Murphy OP, Maurice Colgan OP & Brian Doyle OP in 2011.
Please keep Brs Colm, Luuk & Matthew and indeed all the Irish Dominican student brothers and novices in your prayers.
