God calls everyone to follow, but each call is different. The path God calls each too we call a "vocation." We recognize it in listening to the word of God in our heart, in prayer, and through the support of fellow travelers.
As can be seen in the "About Us" pages, there are many different ways of being Dominican, though there is also a common, shared charism: preaching. The Order of Preachers was founded to preach the Good News of Jesus Christ. Dominicans have been sent to all people, groups, and nations, believers and unbelievers, and especially to the poor. This is the mission that we have received from God and confirmed in the Church: to live the "Apostolic Life" at the service of this vital desire for Truth that enlivens people of all ages.
Grasping the "call" to Dominican life fundamentally means to be passionate–passion for the word of God and a passion for helping people. It is also be curious to know, being moved, amazed by all the things in life. If your passion seems to align with our passion, we invite you to talk to a Dominican vocation director near you. It's a great life!
