Letter by Bishop Grace

As the number of the faithful migrating from almost every part of Europe is increasing more and more each day in these regions, assistance of the Order of Regulars is especially necessary for undertaking their spiritual necessities.
Therefore, I eagerly beseech your Paternity that you deem it worthy to give your consent and approval to this foundation and let your Paternity no doubt that, as far as I am concerned, I shall make everything favorable to the Order in my Diocese.
A humble fellow servant in the Lord of your Paternity
Thomas L. Grace, O.P.
Bishop of St. Paul
28 January 1878
ENGLISH TRANSLATION:

Most Illustrious and Most Reverend Master General of the Community of Order of Preachers, Rome

Most Illustrious and
Reverend Father,
Your Paternity, you have already been informed of my application to the Reverend Father Provincial of the Province of St. Joseph in America, that a house of the Order be established in my Diocese of St. Paul.
