International Dominican Youth Movement

Following in the Footsteps of St. Dominic

The International Dominican Youth Movement (IDYM) is the global network of young Dominicans who want to live the Gospel boldly, joyfully and together.

Born in 1993 during the mandate of fr. Timothy Radcliffe, OP, as Master of the Order, IDYM brings together young people from across countries, cultures and languages who are drawn to the Dominican way of life. It is a “community of communities”: local groups rooted in prayer, study, fraternity and mission, united by the desire to announce Christ to the world.

Dominican Life, Young and Alive

The Mission

To belong to IDYM is to discover the Dominican vocation from within: to pray, to study, to build fraternity and to preach.

The movement normally welcomes young adults between 18 and 35, while respecting the realities of each country and culture. Every local group has its own character, rhythm and way of serving, but all share the same Dominican heart: a love for truth, a passion for the Gospel and a desire to bring Christ into the real questions of contemporary life.

The strength of IDYM is its ability to be both international and deeply local.

Its International Assembly gathers representatives from the countries where the movement is present, strengthening communion, setting common priorities and electing the International Commission. At the same time, each group is called to preach in its own context, listening to the needs, language and culture of the young people around them.

One Dominican mission. Many countries. Countless ways to preach.

IDYM is not just a youth network. It is a path of formation.

Members are accompanied as they grow in faith, deepen their Dominican identity and learn to take up concrete responsibility for mission. Their preaching may take many forms: service to the poor, evangelization among peers, cultural engagement, social communication, study, works of justice and peace, or the simple but powerful witness of a Christian life lived with joy.

Wherever young people are asking questions, searching for meaning or longing for hope, IDYM seeks to be present.

IDYM belongs to the wider Dominican Family and is welcomed by the Order as a sign of the vitality of its preaching mission. Under the responsibility of the Master of the Order, its groups are recognized and accompanied by the appropriate Dominican authorities and supported by friars, nuns, apostolic sisters, lay Dominicans, priestly fraternities and other members of the Dominican Family.

This communion matters. IDYM is not a movement beside the Order, but a living expression of the Order’s mission among young people.
