Espaces – Spirituality,
culture and society in Europe
Espaces, formed in 1992, is an association of Dominican
brothers and sisters who work on the social, ethical,
cultural and spiritual dimensions of a Europe in course
of construction, Europe as represented presently by the
European Union and also by the Council of Europe.
Espaces has an office and secretariat at Brussels and
posts at Strasbourg, Krakow and Berlin.
Espaces pursues its activities in relation to three publics
each of which is interested in the concerns of Europe
: the world of associations and professional bodies for
whom the notion of citizenship is central, in particular
church circles ; the European institutions ; and the
Dominican Order and the Dominican Family.
Espaces is active in different fields of study and research.
Published work includes books and papers on : the meaning
of work in society, ethical questions surrounding aid
to developing countries, ethics and the mass media, issues
around nationalism and the nation state, inter-religious
dialogue, questions concerning the use of force in foreign
policy and security, etc. The group is engaged in consciousness-raising
and public information through study sessions on European
issues, lectures and contributions to debate. It also
networks and dialogues with Islam and with the Orthodox
churches. .
In its activities and contributions to debate, Espaces
pays particular attention to the theological and spiritual
issues at stake.
