An organization of Dominican Sisters ministering in Africa

here are approximately 1500 sisters in Africa and about one third are Africans. There are about 40 different congregations in about 200 houses in 25 different countries. The sisters are involved in all types of apostolates answering the needs of the continent - parochial activities, education, health care, youth ministry, promotion of women, catechetics, social work, retreat work, refugee work, justice and peace work, …etc. .

In September of 1998 some 40 Dominican sisters from 14 African countries belonging to 24 congregations met in Nairobi for the first Dominican Sisters Assembly. This historic assembly was the birthing of DSA.

Goals of DSA :

  1. To promote and facilitate communication and collaboration within the Dominican Family.
  2. To grow in our knowledge and support of each other in our diverse realities.
  3. To claim, promote and celebrate our charism as preachers.
  4. To be promoters of justice and peace and nonviolence through our living and proclaiming a "just word."
  5. To aim for an integrated program of formation for mission.
  6. To participate in developing common apostolic projects.
  7. To identify and create opportunities for the study of theology and social analysis for the healing of the continent.
