My
dear brothers and sisters,
t
is my privilege to welcome you to the websites of the
Dominican Sisters of Apostolic Life. We are all happy
to have you visit us and learn about our life and mission
as Dominican Sisters of the Order.
We
are a group of over thirty-two thousand Dominican women,
belonging to one hundred and sixty-four Congregations,
who are committed to proclaiming the Good News of God's
love and mercy to the people of our times. We strive to
preach this Gospel in over hundred countries around the
world through education, health services, and pastoral
care.
Though
independent congregations, we formed ourselves in 1995
as DominicAN SISTERS INTERNATIONAL( DSI) in response to
a call for closer collaboration among ourselves. This
call has been growing in the minds and hearts of the sisters
around the globe and has been bearing fruit in many collaborative
ventures among the sisters and with other members of the
Dominican Family. We formed this union because we want
to :
We
gather as Prioresses General every three years in General
Assembly and we encourage the creation and development
of national, regional and continental organizations of
sisters for the sake of our mission. We select a Coordinating
Council made up of regional coordinators from five different
regions: Africa: Sr. Christine Mwale, OP; Asia: Sr. Zenaida
Nacpil, OP; Europe: Sr. Angela Mary Leydon, OP; Latin
America and Caribbean: Sr. Joan O'Shanahan, OP; North
America: Sr. Gemma Doll, OP.
I
serve as International Coordinator of DSI and delight
in sharing these stories of Dominican women with you.

Margaret Ormond, OP
