Sister Miriam of the Cross

I wasn't a Catholic when I first began to consider a career of service. I had considerable gifts as an artist so it was difficult to decide where my talents would be most useful. Also for some years I had experienced a deep relationship with God as Father. My mother was divorced and I did not remember my father; as a result, I talked with God regarding those things I would have discussed with a father. Being very reflective and loving everything about the world, I wanted somehow to make it a better place than it seemed to be. This led me to consider religious

life as a way of totally giving myself both to God and to others. I became a member of the Catholic Church and began looking into various traditions of religious communities. As I prayed and considered the options it seemed to me that St. Dominic held the key to what I most desired, that is, to be a contemplative and to share the fruits of that gift with others. I have delighted in being part of an international Order and contributing to its mission to preach God's word of love, forgiveness and the dignity of the human person by a monastic way of life.
