BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRANCE:

  • Good physical and psychological health
  • Between the ages of 20 and 45
  • College or work experience
  • No financial debts or persons dependent on you
  • Single (if divorced, you must have an annulment from the Church)
  • A firm belief in God's call to follow Christ wholeheartedly in the Dominican contemplative life

The process of discernment before entrance can last up to a year. We encourage several visits to the monastery for interviews and the opportunity for you to meet us, participate in our liturgy, and see the monastery, etc.

If, after this, you are seriously interested in our life you may live in the monastery for two to six weeks as an observer. This gives you a practical experience of daily life in the monastery and tests your aptitude for it before you make the personal arrangements necessary for entering the postulancy.

Our Monastery is located in the outskirts of Elmira and is surrounded by the beautiful hills of Southern New York. If you are interested in further information about our life please contact
