Peter Hunter and I took a wonderful hike up the Sella Massif, the mountain group just south of the Grödner Joch. The trail started right from our hotel and went around to the left until it found a huge chute which it snaked up. At the top of the chute, it was so steep that there were cables and ladder rungs bolted into the rock. Suddenly, though, you popped up onto a fantstick steppe two thirds of the way up the mountain, where it started snowing on us. The view is at the top of the page, and don't forget that you can click it to get a better view.

hutte  We continued on, and found a mountain hutte just sround the corner, complete with restaurant and hotel, right on the middle of the mountain! The only way to reach this place was to hike for an hour and a half uphill like we just did. Of course, we didn't think to bring any money up the mountain. I could have used an expresso break...

route  Just before the top, we hit a very difficult section, snow, loose rocks, very steep. It took us a while to cross, and we got into another little saddle between the top peaks. From there on it was in snow fields and glaciers, and we had not boots, gloves, ice axes, nor sunglasses. We decided it would be wise to turn back at this point, but first we celebrated mass up here at the top. At the right is our altar and one of the peaks, and at the bottom is me on the mountain and Peter down in the town of Corvara just below us. peakmass
