Dominican Chant

An Introduction to the Dominican Tradition

This manual offers an accessible introduction to Dominican chant through eight pieces, one for each Gregorian mode. With scores, recordings and a practical, immersive method, it helps singers become familiar with the modes, psalm tones and basic notation of the Dominican chant tradition.
No previous experience is required. Like learning a language or a craft, chant is learned by listening, repeating and singing together. The goal is not concert perfection, but shared liturgical prayer, formed by patience, practice and attentive participation in the singing community.

"[COMMISSIO] We commission the Liturgical Commission of the Order to provide resources on the basic principles and repertoire of Dominican plain chant for brothers in initial formation."
