The Dominican Laity of the Province of Santiago of Mexico held their elective National Assembly at Our Lady of Fatima Priory in León, Guanajuato, from 3-5 July 2026.
The Assembly gathered lay Dominicans for days of prayer, reflection, formation, and fraternity. Fr. Luis Javier Guerrero, OP, Prior Provincial; fr. Leobardo Sierra, OP, Promoter for the Laity of the Province of Mexico; and fr. Cristóbal Torres Iglesias, OP, General Promoter for the Laity, presided and preached at the daily liturgies.
The programme also included several presentations dedicated to the history, governance, and mission of Dominican life. Eduardo Hernández Trejo, of the Dominican Institute for Historical Research, offered a conference on “500 Years of Dominicans in Mexico.” Fr. Luis Javier Guerrero, OP, presented “Jurisdiction, Autonomy and Synergy: Communitarian Government in the Province of Santiago of Mexico,” while fr. Cristóbal Torres Iglesias, OP, spoke on “Preaching at the Global Frontiers – The Mission of the Laity at the Heart of the Universal Church.”
During the Assembly, the Dominican Laity elected the new President and Council of the Lay Fraternities of the Province of Santiago de México. The newly elected members are:

Secretary / Communications Officer: Ms. Isabel Cristina Yepes, OP
Treasurer: Mr. Alejandro Hernández, OP

Justice and Peace Officer: Mr. Gerardo Cervantes Saldaña, OP
