Join the Novena to Saint Dominic

The Dominican Family is invited to join in prayer for the annual Novena to St. Dominic, held from July 30 to August 7 in preparation for his feast on August 8.

For nine days, Dominicans and friends of the Order throughout the world will ask the intercession of our Holy Father Dominic. The novena offers an opportunity to give thanks for his life and witness and to pray for the renewal of the Order’s mission of preaching the Gospel.

“Saint Dominic embraced a mission that is timely, because he saw a world in dire need of a new evangelization; yet the same mission is truly timeless, because every generation is in want of a new evangelization, i.e., the preaching of the One who is ever ancient, yet ever new,” says fr. Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP, Master of the Order.

St. Dominic devoted himself entirely to the proclamation of Jesus Christ. His preaching was sustained by prayer, study and compassion for those he encountered. As the Church prepares to celebrate his feast, we ask that the same love for God and zeal for the salvation of souls may be renewed throughout the Dominican Family.

During his tenure as Master, fr. Gerard has pointed out enthusiastically that St. Dominic’s dedication to truth serves as a vital remedy against modern half-truths, polarization, and fake news.

“The brightness of the light we bear depends largely on our relation with Christ,” says fr. Gerard. “Dominic is a brilliant lumen ecclesiae because his entire life is oriented and exposed to Christ; there is nothing that blocks the light of Christ, and so Dominic reflects this light more fully and brilliantly.”

Join us in praying the novena, which will be shared on the Order’s social media accounts.

Holy Father Dominic, preacher of grace, pray for us!
