After the canonical visit to the Vicariate of Angola in August, the Master of the Order, Br Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP together with the Socius for the Iberian Peninsula, Br Miguel Ángel del Río, OP made the canonical visit to the Province of Portugal from September 19 to 23 of this year where they had the opportunity to meet with the friars of the province as well as the different branches of the Dominican family there.
The Dominican nuns share with the great Dominican Family what they experienced during the months of July and August 2023, the period in which they made the canonical Visitation of the monasteries of “Mãe de Deus” in Benguela and in Kuito-Bié, Angola.
From July 16 to 22, Dominican student friars from the Southern Cone gathered in Buenos Aires for fellowship, prayer, and reflection. The meeting aimed to deepen fraternity, explore the General Formation Ratio, and discuss the challenges of study in our spirituality.
On 27 August 2023, the Vicariate of Angola welcomed three new priests: Mário Cardoso Lisboa Cuvalela, OP, Mariano Dinha Domingos, OP, and Tomás Chissambo Luís, OP. They were ordained by Archbishop Filomeno do Nascimento Vieira Dias. The event was attended by fr. Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP, Master of the Order.
On Sunday, 27 August 2023, in Helsinki Cathedral, Brother Gregorius Pehrman, OP, made his solemn profession in the Order as a cooperator brother. For the Dominican family, whose friars played a central role in the evangelization of the country in the 13th century, the event had a historic character. Even though Brother Gregorius is the third Finn to join the Order since the friars returned to Finland in 1949 (the friars made profession in France during their formation), it was the first profession of a religious in Finland since the Reformation.

Dominican Brothers: Conversi, Lay, and Cooperator Friars” by Bro Augustine Thompson OP offers a significant historical account of the Order. Available in Spanish and French, it sheds light on the often overlooked lives of these brothers, from Saint Dominic to the present day.
Among the thirteen patrons of the next World Youth Day, to be held in Lisbon from 1 to 6 August 2023, three were members of the Order of Preachers. They are Saint Bartholomew of the Martyrs (1514-1590), Blessed Joan of Portugal (1452-1490) and Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901-1925).

Dominican Justice and Peace Promoters in Africa gathered to address challenges including forced migration, climate change, and bad governance. They emphasized the significance of education, influencing governance, and promoting solidarity in tackling these issues for the integral development of Africans and Africa as a continent.
On the 7th of June 2023, with great joy, the Province of St Joseph the Worker, Nigeria and Ghana celebrated the conferment of the academic title Magister in Sacra Theologia (STM) by the Master of the Order, Fr Gerard Timoner III, OP on a son of the province, Fr Anthony Akinwale, OP. The conferment was celebrated with a thanksgiving Mass and a magistral lecture by the recipient.
