On 10 June 2022, the friars of the United States Province of St. Joseph elected Brother Darren Michael Pierre, OP, as their Prior Provincial for a four-year term. The election took place during the Provincial Chapter meeting at Providence College, Rhode Island, USA. Br. Darren accepted his election after Brother Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP, Master of the Order, confirmed it. One of four Dominican provinces in the United States, the St. Joseph Province, also called the Eastern Province, extends from New England to Virginia to Ohio.
Brother Darren was raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and entered the Order with a master’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After his first profession of vows in 1998, he studied for the priesthood at the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception (Dominican House of Studies) in Washington, DC, USA. He was ordained a priest in 2004.
Before his election as Prior Provincial, Brother Darren served as Socius of the Province of St. Joseph for nearly 10 years. He has ministered in a variety of pastoral settings in the Province, including St. Gertrude Parish, Cincinnati, Ohio, and St. Patrick Parish, Columbus, Ohio. He also served as the Province’s Promoter for the Lay and Clerical Fraternities of St. Dominic.
