The mission

The International Dominican Commission for Justice and Peace was established to give flesh to the intuition of the 1971 Synod of Bishops, which emphasized that “action on behalf of justice is constitutive to the preaching of the Gospel”. In continuity with St Dominic and the many Dominican men and women who have given witness to this in their life and mission, the Commission is mandated to support and encourage the Dominican family in its efforts to preach more profoundly the Gospel of life, justice, peace, and the integrity of creation. It does this by bringing the diverse branches of the Dominican Family together to develop a common reflection and action to fulfil this mission.

The objectives

The objectives of the Commission are :

To assist the whole Dominican Family to grow in an understanding of work for Justice and Peace as a constitutive dimension of the Dominican vocation and the preaching of the Gospel.

To promote the Dominican Family’s efforts to bring the Good News to the world by working for justice and peace.
