10th Assembly of the International Confederation of Dominican Sisters Held in Rome

The 10th Assembly of the Dominican Sisters International Confederation (DSIC) was held from 11-16 May 2025 at the Passionist Centre in Rome. Gathering 125 sisters, comprising Prioresses and guests, over five days of profound listening, dialogue, and discernment aimed at setting the priorities and course of the Confederation for the next three years, participants deliberated on the present challenges and opportunities in Dominican life.

In this regard, the Assembly opened with reflections on the decline of congregations and the need to prepare for an uncertain future, and the formation of younger sisters. The Prioresses shared testimonies on the leadership of their congregations and devoted time to attentive listening to the young sisters who had participated in the Leadership Development Program and in the meeting held in Caleruega in August 2024. These young sisters presented a series of proposals and creative initiatives aimed at strengthening collaboration among younger Dominican sisters and consolidating international links between Congregations and regions.

The Dominican commitment to justice, peace, and the integrity of creation was another central theme of the Assembly. Five sisters representing the DSIC Think Tank, which had met six times in recent months with a facilitator to assess the structure and functioning of the Confederation, also addressed the gathering. The team presented a series of proposals aimed at enhancing DSIC’s effectiveness and responsiveness in a rapidly changing global context.

The Assembly concluded with the announcement of the re-election of Sister Margaret Mayce, OP, as International Coordinator of the Confederation for another three-year term. “The Assembly served not only as a space of governance and planning, but also of communion and shared hope, where the wisdom of the past and the vision of the future came together in the service of the Gospel and the Dominican mission around the world,” highlights the communiqué published below.
