Major superiors of the Dominican Family in the Asia-Pacific region came together anew for the leadership conference held in South Korea on 23-27 October 2023, with the theme “The Dominican Family in Asia-Pacific: Strengthening Communion, Collaboration, and Mission in the Spirit of Synodality”.
On October 15, the Dominican youth community of La Valeta in Malta organized their annual Marian pilgrimage. Started in 1883, it’s a sacred journey, with participants praying the Rosary.
The Dominican Family in the United States convened at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC on September 30, 2023. Nearly 5,000 people gathered for talks, prayer, a Rosary procession, and Mass on the eve of “Rosary Sunday,” a Dominican tradition observed on the first Sunday of October. The event marked the first national Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage in the USA, organized by the Province of St. Joseph. The day included spiritual conferences, confession, book presentations, and a beautiful Rosary procession around the Basilica led by over fifty friars.
The Dominican nuns share with the great Dominican Family what they experienced during the months of July and August 2023, the period in which they made the canonical Visitation of the monasteries of “Mãe de Deus” in Benguela and in Kuito-Bié, Angola.
On 27 August 2023, the Vicariate of Angola welcomed three new priests: Mário Cardoso Lisboa Cuvalela, OP, Mariano Dinha Domingos, OP, and Tomás Chissambo Luís, OP. They were ordained by Archbishop Filomeno do Nascimento Vieira Dias. The event was attended by fr. Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP, Master of the Order.
On Sunday, 27 August 2023, in Helsinki Cathedral, Brother Gregorius Pehrman, OP, made his solemn profession in the Order as a cooperator brother. For the Dominican family, whose friars played a central role in the evangelization of the country in the 13th century, the event had a historic character. Even though Brother Gregorius is the third Finn to join the Order since the friars returned to Finland in 1949 (the friars made profession in France during their formation), it was the first profession of a religious in Finland since the Reformation.
