11th Day – General Chapter of Diffinitors

General Chapter of Diffinitors
Eleventh Day
Tultenango, July 26, 2022 – Memorial of Saint Joachim and Saint Anne.

Memorial of Saint Joachim and Saint Anne. Today’s Eucharist was presided over by Friar Pius Pietrzyk, OP, of the Province of Saint Joseph, USA, and the homily was preached by Friar Gregory Pearson, OP, of the Province of England. In his homily, Friar Gregory said: “The message of salvation that God communicates to us through the Incarnation, in the ‘language’ of the history of his people, is a message for all humanity. Our task as preachers is nothing less than to communicate that saving message to the men and women of our world, and that means both knowing the ‘language’ of the Incarnation and being able to show how it speaks to all those whom Christ came to redeem.”

The commissions are still working on their writings after having presented them in plenary. The genius of the first presentation is that they gather the opinions of the capitulars on each of the themes presented. These themes will continue to be presented in the process of a General Chapter until their final approval. In a synthetic way, we share one point of each theme:

The preaching commission: The mission for our culture/s. We are in the context of new pandemics, the strongest of which is that of COVID.19 How do we preach, bring people closer to God with the contents of our preaching?

The commission of communion and mission: How do we continue to strengthen the synergy of life and mission in the communities of brothers, in the Dominican Family?

The commission on the call to mission: Vocations, initial and ongoing formation: How to offer an authentic Dominican formation? It is necessary to include new elements for the integral formation of the preachers from the vocational promotion to the permanent formation of each one.

The commission in charge of reflecting on the resources for the mission: economy. Formation and mission need solidarity, especially when we have to cross borders and take on new linguistic, cultural, etc. challenges.

The commission on structures for mission: Book of Constitutions and Ordinances (LCO) is the one that helps to give unity and purpose to the decisions of the General Chapter. It is important to have clarity, because the measures adopted will be analyzed to know if they are moving towards the objectives.

Thank you for reading the chronicles and for sharing them with the Dominican Family. Thank you for your prayers for the good course of this Chapter.
