“Truth and Justice for Lasting Peace”
Each year, from the first Sunday of Advent until the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord, the Dominican Family celebrates the Dominican Month for Peace: a time of prayer and commitment focused on a country in the world facing situations of conflict.
This year, the focus will be on Cameroon, under the theme: “Truth and Justice for a Lasting Peace.” During this period, Dominican communities are called to organize pastoral activities, promote solidarity initiatives, and offer prayers for this African country.
On this occasion, the Master of the Order addresses a letter to the entire Dominican Family, offering guidance for living this month deeply. In addition, various resources will be available on the official website of the Order (www.op.org) : logo, homilies, articles, and downloadable materials that each community can adapt to its local context. Communities are also invited to share their experiences and pastoral activities related to peace by writing to contacto@curia.op.org.
In recent years, the Dominican Month for Peace has focused on different realities: Haiti (2024), the Amazon (2023), Myanmar (2022), Venezuela (2021), Ukraine (2020), India (2019), the Democratic Republic of Congo (2018), and Colombia (2017).
In recent years, this special month has been dedicated to different realities: Haiti (2024), the Amazon (2023), Myanmar (2022), Venezuela (2021), Ukraine (2020), India (2019), the Democratic Republic of Congo (2018), and Colombia (2017).
Pope Leo XIV has repeatedly underlined the importance of dialogue and prayer as paths to reconciliation:
“Let us ask from the Holy Spirit the gift of Peace. Peace begins in our hearts, for only a peaceful heart can spread peace in the family, society, and international relations. May the Spirit of the Risen Christ open paths of reconciliation wherever there is war. May He enlighten those who govern and give them the courage to take steps toward de-escalation and dialogue.” (Regina Caeli, June 8th).
He also firmly reminded us:
“‘In the name of human dignity and international law, I repeat to those responsible what Pope Francis used to say: ‘War is always a defeat!’ And with Pius XII, ‘Nothing is lost with peace. Everything can be lost with war’” (General Audience, St. Peter’s Square, June 18, 2025).
