First International President of the Priestly Fraternities of Saint Dominic Elected

On June 24, 2025, Father Nuno Duarte da Silva Queirós was elected, at the International Assembly in Rome, as the first International President of the Priestly Fraternities of Saint Dominic for a three-year term.

The International President of the Priestly Fraternities of Saint Dominic is primarily tasked with representing this branch of the Dominican Family before the International Commission of the Dominican Family, and with working in collaboration with the Friar General Promoter of the Priestly Fraternities in the accompaniment and promotion of this particular expression of Dominican identity among diocesan priests.

Father Nuno Duarte da Silva Queirós was born on April 22, 1984, in Santo Tirso, Porto District, Portugal. From 2002 to 2007, he was a Benedictine monk at the Abbey of São Bento de Singeverga, where he served as organist, cantor, and member of the monastery’s liturgy commission. He holds a Master’s degree in Theology from the Faculty of Theology of the Catholic University of Portugal and a Licentiate in Church History from the Faculty of History and Cultural Heritage of the Church at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

A priest of the Diocese of Aveiro (Portugal) since November 17, 2013, he began his ministry in the Pastoral Unit of Águeda as parochial vicar. From 2015 to 2021, he served as pastor of Fonte de Angeão, Santo António de Vagos, and Soza, in the municipality of Vagos. During the same period, he was Director of the Diocesan Secretariat for Liturgy, Coordinator of the Diocesan Department for Liturgical Pastoral Ministry, member of the National Service for Acolytes, Diocesan Director of the Apostleship of Prayer, member of the Diocesan Department for Liturgical Music, and diocesan delegate to national and international Eucharistic Congresses. Since 2012, he has been the spiritual assistant for the “Teams of Our Lady” movement (Águeda Team 11). He also served on several consultative bodies of the Diocese of Aveiro, including the Presbyteral Council, the Diocesan Pastoral Council, and the Council of Deans. Since 2016, he has also been a member of the College of Consultors of the Diocese, to which he was reappointed in 2021 by the Bishop of Aveiro.

He taught at the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences of Aveiro (2014-2016), taught music at the Seminary of Saint Joana Princess of Aveiro, and served as Vice-President of the Cathedral Choir of Aveiro (2014-2018). Since 2022, he has been Vice-Postulator of the Cause for Canonization of Blessed Joan of Portugal, a Dominican tertiary. On July 22, 2024, he was appointed by the Bishop of Aveiro as pastor of the parish of Saint Martin of Salreu, in the municipality of Estarreja, Aveiro District.

He was admitted to the Priestly Fraternities of Saint Dominic on May 12, 2023, and made his perpetual profession on October 3, 2024, at the Basilica of Saint Sabina in Rome, in a celebration presided over by Brother Massimo Mancini, OP, Postulator General, in the presence of the Dominican community.
