“Learning, teaching and trying to do theology from and in a tradition”

Lectio Magistralis by Bro Jorge Alejandro Scampini, OP, Master of Sacred Theology

“Learning, teaching and trying to do theology from and in a tradition” is the title of the Lectio Magistralis that Bro Jorge Alejandro Scampini, OP, who, on the 22nd of November 2024, received the degree of Master in Sacred Theology, with the decree of the Master of the Order, Bro Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP, offered on the 9th of April 2025, in the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

In his Lectio Magistralis, Bro Jorge developed two main themes. Addressing the first of these, “Teaching and learning theology in the Order of Preachers”, he focused his reflection on two aspects: “Study in the framework of an apostolic life project” and “The service of the Master in a life project: a function and a spirit”. In the second, “Learning, teaching and trying to do theology from the Dominican tradition”, he reflected on six aspects: “Ecumenical commitment in the Order of Preachers in the 20th century”, “A Dominican tradition of ecumenism?”, “The ministry of the Dominicans in Latin Greece”, “The Tractatus Contra Graecos (1252): a milestone and a beginning”, “Elements to gather” and “A new tradition or a response of a living tradition in a new context?
