On October 13, 2024, at the Holy Rosary Convent in Warispura, Faisalabad, Pakistan, the National Convention of the Dominican Laity was held, entitled ‘The Role of Lay Dominicans in Preaching the Gospel in Pakistan’. It was attended by nearly 150 lay Dominicans from all over the country, coming from Karachi, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Jahang Ibn-e-Mariam Colony in Warispura and Dasua. The Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena and the Dominican Sisters of Malta also participated.
Prior Vice-Provincial of the Vice-Province of Ibn-E-Mariam of Pakistan, Bro Azhar Lal, OP, Promoter of the Dominican Laity in Pakistan, Bro Akhtar Naveed, OP, Bro Patrick Peter, OP, Bro Irfan Christ, OP, and Bro Shahzad Aquinas, OP. The convention began with a Eucharistic celebration, followed by a welcome by a group from St. Dominic’s Convent College in Warispura, who gave a dramatic presentation of Gospel stories during the programme. Other highlights included presentations by the Socius for Asia and the Pacific, the Promoter General for the Dominican Laity and the Provincial Promoter of the Laity.
