Brother Łukasz Wiśniewski, OP, was elected the Provincial of the Polish Dominican Province on 29 January 2022. Following his confirmation by Brother Gerard Timoner III, OP, Master of the Order of Preachers, Br. Łukasz accepted his election.
Brother Łukasz was born in 1984 in Pasłęk, Poland. He joined the Dominican Order in 2003. In 2004, at the end of the General Chapter in Krakow, he made his first vows at the hands of the General of the Order, Brother Carlos A. Aspiroz Costa, OP. During his formation he lived in Dublin for a year and studied with the friars of the Irish Province. Br. Łukasz made his solemn profession on 19 April 2009 and was ordained a priest on 21 May 2011 by the late Cardinal Franciszek Macharski.
After his ordination, Br. Łukasz, lived for two years in Poznań, where he worked in the publishing house W drodze and was a university chaplain. From 2013 to 2019 he continued his studies in dogmatic theology in Fribourg, Switzerland. While there, he was the professorial assistant of Brother Benoît-Dominique de la Soujeole, OP. Under his guidance, Br. Łukasz wrote and defended, magna cum laude, his doctoral dissertation, The Ecclesial Instinct of Faith, which was published in French by Cerf Publishers.
In 2020, Br. Łukasz moved to Krakow, where he was for several months submagister (tutor) of the student friars. On 3 May 2021, he was elected prior of the Krakow convent. Br. Łukaszhas been a lecturer in dogmatic theology (ecclesiology and eschatology) at the College of Philosophy and Theology in Krakow and also lectures at the Dominican College of Philosophy and Theology in Krakow and the Dominicanum College in Warsaw. In addition to Polish, Br. Łukasz speaks four foreign languages.
