Plenary Indulgence Granted to the Holy Name Society

Apostolic Penitentiary grants indulgence on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the Second Council of Lyon

The Confraternity of the Holy Name of Jesus, entrusted to the care of the Order of Preachers, is celebrating the 750th anniversary of the Second Council of Lyon. The fathers of this Council, which was convoked on 7 May, 1274, encouraged the faithful to foster a special devotion to the Holy Name.

On 20 September 1274, Pope Gregory X commissioned the Master of the Order, Blessed John of Vercelli, OP, to promote devotion to the Holy Name of God and Jesus. The Holy Name Society is thus celebrating a Jubilee Year of devotion to the Holy Name of God and Jesus from 7 May 2024 to 7 May 2025.

The Apostolic Penitentiary has granted a Plenary Indulgence to the faithful, duly disposed, who take part in the celebrations organised by the Holy Name Society during this Jubilee year. Members of the Order may promote this opportunity publicly, providing the necessary catechesis on indulgences and on the conditions prescribed by the Church for their reception.
