First gathering of European Novitiates in Caleruega

First gathering of European Novitiates in Caleruega

At the invitation of Brother Gerard Francisco Timoner III, Master of the Order, the novices and masters of novices from the ten European novitiates met in Caleruega from 23 to 29 May 2024. The forty-one novices from fourteen provinces were able to meet with the Master of the Order, who had joined them for the first time, and with Brother Pablo Sicouly, Socius for Intellectual Life, who introduced them to the School of Salamanca and the figures of Francisco de Vitoria and Bartolomé de las Casas. During an excursion to Valladolid, the novices were welcomed by the Provincial of Hispania, Brother Jesùs Diaz, and Brother Sixto Castro, who introduced the participants to the places where the Controversy of Valladolid took place.

In addition, during these days, each novitiate presented a personality from its province to the other novices. During the many informal moments, the novices had plenty of time to talk to each other. Let’s hope that these inspiring days will serve as a foundation for future collaboration!

Alongside this meeting, the novice masters also had the opportunity to get together to share their concerns and challenges.
