The relic of the future saint arrives in Rome for the first time for veneration during the Jubilee of Youth
On the occasion of the Jubilee of Youth, the incorrupt body of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati—which has rested in the Cathedral of Turin since 1990—will be brought to Rome for the first time, to the Basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva, where it will be received by the community of Dominican friars. The relic of the young man from Turin will arrive in the evening of July 25 and will remain exposed for public veneration until August 4, confirmed the Diocese of Rome, underscoring that this will mark the first veneration of the Blessed’s body in the capital.
The official opening of the veneration will take place on Saturday, July 26, during a Mass presided over by Cardinal Baldassare Reina, the Pope’s Vicar General for the Diocese of Rome. On this occasion, he will also offer a blessing to the many volunteers involved in organizing the Jubilee. The Dominican community has prepared a rich program of events, including meetings, catecheses, and multilingual conferences, to introduce Pier Giorgio Frassati as a “man of the Beatitudes” and a witness to a faith that is lived, generous, and committed to social justice.
On August 4, following a Mass celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Archbishop Anthony Fisher, OP—Archbishop of Sydney and the one who promoted the presence of Frassati’s relics at World Youth Day in Sydney in 2008—the relic will return to Turin.
This event, promoted by the Diocese of Rome, is an extraordinary pilgrimage, closely tied to the upcoming canonization of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, which Pope Leo XIV will celebrate on September 7, together with that of Blessed Carlo Acutis.
