The Province of St. Thomas Aquinas elects new Prior Provincial

Fra Sergio Maria Catalano

The Provincial Chapter of the Province of St. Thomas Aquinas, meeting at the Shrine of Madonna dell’Arcco in Naples, has elected Br. Sergio Maria Catalano, OP, as Prior Provincial. The election was confirmed by the Master of the Order according to the Constitutions.

A native of Palermo, Italy, Br. Sergio completed his university studies in architecture in 1998 and qualified for professional practice. He entered the Order of Preachers in 2001 and was ordained to the priesthood in 2007.

He studied philosophy and theology at the Dominican studium in Naples and the studium in Bologna, receiving degrees in both disciplines. In 2010 he completed a master’s degree in Theology and the Arts at the Institut Catholique de Paris.

Br. Sergio has exercised his ministry through itinerant preaching, leading retreats, catecheses, and moments of prayer. His Christian journey began in the Neocatechumenal communities, with which he continues to be closely connected. Alongside his preaching, he has remained active in architecture with a group of colleagues, focusing especially on the design of sacred spaces.

He currently teaches dogmatic theology at LUMSA (Libera Università Maria Santissima Assunta) in Palermo, Faculty of Law.

We pray for Br. Sergio and entrust his service as Prior Provincial to the intercession of St. Thomas Aquinas, patron of the Province.
