CLIOP Meeting at Santa Sabina

The International Liturgical Commission of the Order of Preachers (CLIOP) convened from June 28th to July 1st, 2022 in Rome for their annual plenary meeting. In the fall of 2020 the Master of the Order appointed new members of the Commission for a 6 year term. It was also expanded to include a sub-commission on liturgical music.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the meetings of the Commission have been held online. Last week’s gathering at Santa Sabina was the first opportunity for most of the CLIOP members to meet in person. On the first day we were joined by the Master of the Order, who was briefed on the current projects and offered his perspective on the work ahead of us. The areas that the Commission has labored on include preparation of a new martyrology, propers for the recent saints and blesseds of the Order, calendars of provinces, a new Liber of benedictionum et precum, and development of the liturgy section on the Order’s webpage. The sub-commission on liturgical music has been collecting hymnaria, vesper books and other chant publications from various provinces in order to see the existing use of chant across the Order, which will allow us to promote it better. We were also tasked with the creation of a music resource including Mass settings and chants in the official languages of the Order, which could be used for general chapters and other international meetings of the Dominican Family.

Now, as the in-person meeting is over, the CLIOP members will continue their respective work at home. We encourage you to visit the liturgy section on the website of the Order which is a growing resource on this important aspect of our communal life: liturgia.op.org
