The friars of the Vicariate of St. Vincent Liem gathered in Houston, Texas, from June 23-28, 2025, for their vicariate assembly.
On June 25, 2025, Brother Joseph An Quoc Dang, OP, was elected Vicar Provincial, succeeding Brother Peter Huong Pham, OP, who completed his four-year term of service. Br. Joseph will guide the vicariate for the next four years (2025-29).
Br. Joseph, 59, is pastor of Holy Martyrs of Vietnam Parish in Arlington, Virginia. Born in Vietnam, he pursued his studies in Houston, Ottawa, Washington, and Rome, earning degrees in computer engineering, philosophy, divinity, and pastoral theology.
He entered the novitiate of the Order of Preachers in Cincinnati in 1995, made first profession on Aug. 15, 1995, and was ordained to the priesthood on July 9, 1999, in Vancouver, B.C., by Archbishop Adam Exner, OMI.
Br. Joseph’s ministry has included assignments in Canada, the United States, and Rome. He served as associate pastor at St. Vincent Liem Parish in Calgary (2000-03) and at St. Joseph Parish in Vancouver (2003-08). After studies at the Angelicum in Rome (2008-10), he returned to Calgary as pastor of Holy Trinity Church (2010-17) and dean of the Fr. Naphin Deanery (2011-17). He later served as socius of the vicariate (2017-19) before becoming pastor of Holy Martyrs of Vietnam Parish in Arlington (2019-present).
The Vicariate of St. Vincent Liem, dependent on the Queen of Martyrs Province in Vietnam, is composed of friars engaged in parish ministry, education, and evangelization, especially among Vietnamese Catholic communities in North America.
We give thanks for the service of Br. Peter during the past four years. With confidence in God’s providence, we pray for Br. Joseph, that the Lord and St. Dominic may guide him in his new responsibility of preaching and service.
