Convent of Santa Sabina, 26th November 2020
As part of their permanent formation, the brothers of the Santa Sabina Convent in Rome invited Father Hans Zollner SJ, President of the Centre for Child Protection in Rome, to give a lecture on the problem of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. After Father Zollner briefly described his institution, he devoted himself to many aspects of this painful problem with which the Church has had to deal with very intensively since several decades. He spoke of the lack of serious action to combat child abuse and a “systemic error” in the Church; he then presented the measures adopted by the Holy See, particularly in recent years, but also mentioned the difficulties in their implementation. He paid particular attention to the importance of prevention in this area. The community is very grateful to Father Zollner for his informative presentation and for his answers to the questions in the lively discussion which followed his talk. We wish him God’s blessings for his future work.
