On 13 September 2025, the Provincial Chapter of the Province of Malta, gathered at the Convent of Valletta, reelected Br. Vincent Mary Micallef, OP, as Prior Provincial.
Alongside the election of the Prior Provincial, the capitulars elected Br. Claudio Borg, OP, Br. Michael Camilleri, OP, Br. Reno Muscat, OP, and Br. Alan Joseph Adami, OP, as definitors, while Br. Pawlu Gatt, OP, and Br. Aaron Zahra, OP, were elected as members of the council.
Br. Vincent was born in Valletta in 1950. He entered the Order in 1967 and was ordained priest in 1974 by Archbishop Mikiel Gonzi. For thirty years he served as a missionary in Brazil, where he ministered in parishes, taught at the Dominican Faculty of Theology in São Paulo, and was elected Prior Provincial of the Province of Bartolomeu de Las Casas from 2006 to 2009. During his time in Brazil he also founded a school for children with disabilities in Faxinal and was named honorary citizen of Curitiba for his pastoral service among the poor.
Since his return to Malta in 2010, Br. Vincent has ministered at the Parish of Our Lady of Fatima, Guardamanġa, first as vicar and later as parish priest. He was first elected Prior Provincial of the Province of St. Pius V in 2021 and has now been confirmed once again by his brethren in the 2025 Chapter.
The Province of St. Pius V, established in 1838, carries forward a Dominican presence on the islands that began in the mid-15th century. Today it numbers 45 friars in priories at Rabat, Vittoriosa, Valletta, Sliema, and Gwardamanġa, as well as two priories in Durrës, Albania. The brethren continue the mission of the Order through preaching, pastoral ministry, and education in the central Mediterranean.
We pray for Br. Vincent and for the Province of Malta, that the Lord may strengthen them in the mission of preaching for the salvation of souls.
