The Provincial Chapter of the Province of St. James in Mexico, gathered at the Casa de Nuestro Padre Santo Domingo in Tultenango on 4 September 2025, re-elected Br. Luis Javier Rubio Guerrero, OP, as Prior Provincial. The election, for a second term, was confirmed by the Master of the Order, Br. Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP, and was also accepted by Br. Luis Javier on the same date.
Br. Luis Javier Rubio Guerrero, OP
He was born in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, the son of Francisco Javier Rubio López and María Martha Guerrero. He entered the Order of Preachers in 1989, made his first profession in 1991, and was ordained a priest in 1999. Within the Province of St. James in Mexico, he has served in various roles: as Conventual Prior, formator, and regent of studies. He was Socius of the Master of the Order for Latin America and the Caribbean and served as President of the Interprovincial Conference of Dominican Friars of Latin America and the Caribbean (CIDALC) from 2016 to 2021. He served as Prior Provincial of his Province of St. James in Mexico from 2021 to 2025.

Regarding his academic formation, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí; a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the Tomás de Aquino Center for Philosophical Studies; and a Pontifical Licentiate in Theology with a specialization in Moral Theology from the Pontifical University of Mexico. He also holds a Master’s degree in Latin American Realities, with an emphasis on Globalization, from the Pedro de Córdoba Institute and the ARCIS University in Santiago, Chile.
Among his other services and contributions to the Church are the following: Rector of the Intercongregational Theological Formation Institute of Mexico (IFTIM); Coordinator of the Moral Theology Department at the Pontifical University of Mexico (UPM); member of the Council of the Mexican Institute of Christian Social Doctrine (IMDOSOC); and professor at several institutions, including UPM, IMDOSOC, IFTIM, the Faculty of St. Stephen (Salamanca), and the Dominican Studies Center in the Dominican Republic.
