Vocation Promoters meet to initiate more harmonious vocation promotion at the level of the Order.
A meeting of the Order’s Vocation Promoters, organised by the General Curia through the Socius for Fraternal Life and Formation, took place from 17 to 22 June, 2024. The vocation promoters came from different regions where the Order is located and met at the Casa La Salle in Rome.
This meeting was an opportunity for pastoral formation in the promotion and cultivation of vocations, as well as for sharing the best practices used in various cultural and socio-religious contexts. It was also an opportunity to reflect on fundamental themes such as vocational culture, the essential elements of Dominican discernment, the pedagogical method of Dominican accompaniment, the basis of accompaniment in Sacred Scripture and Dominican spirituality, the specific vocation of cooperator brother and the promotion of this vocation, and the use of social media in vocation ministry.
“The moments of sharing good practices, prayer and relaxation were very enriching,” said Brother Juan Manuel Fernández, OP, Socius for Fraternal Life and Formation.
At the end of the gathering the promoters had the opportunity to reflect together on three points:
- concrete ways in which they can collaborate with each other
- the support they expect from the General Curia
- proposals for the General Chapter on the promotion of vocations
A clear fruit of this workshop is the desire to continue having these types of meetings and to initiate collaborative processes to achieve a more harmonious vocational promotion at the level of the Order.
The Vocation Promoters were comforted by the thought that they were “friends of God” in the work of promoting vocations to the Order; and they recognised their dependence on this grace. Another key fruit of this workshop was the commitment to prayer for vocations. The readers of this article are also invited to pray for vocations.
