Prayer for the eternal repose of Pope Francis
Lord of life and hope,
receive into your peace Pope Francis,
faithful servant of the Gospel and shepherd of your Church.
Give him eternal rest and let perpetual light shine on him.
May his example of humility, mercy, and love for the poorest of the poor
continue to inspire your people.
Amen.
Note of Condolence of the Order of Preachers on the death of His Holiness Pope Francis
“The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear” (Ps 27:1).
With deep sadness, but also with Christian hope in the promise of eternal life, the Order of Preachers, in communion with the Dominican Family and the Church, raises its prayers for the eternal repose of His Holiness Pope Francis.
We thank God for the immense gift of his life, for his evangelical witness, for his closeness to the poor and excluded, and for his tireless search for justice and peace, dialogue and fraternity among peoples and religions.
From our Dominican vocation to preach the Truth, we recognize in Pope Francis a pastor who knew how to proclaim the Gospel with words and gestures, opening paths of renewal, justice, and tenderness. His humility and courage will continue to inspire our mission in the world, as he reminded us in his letter “Praedicator Gratiae”:
“May the Order of Preachers, now as then, be in the forefront of a renewed proclamation of the Gospel, one that can speak to the hearts of the men and women of our time and awaken in them a thirst for the coming of Christ’s kingdom of holiness, justice and peace!”1
We unite in prayer with the entire universal Church, entrusting his soul to the infinite love of the Father, confident that he now beholds the face of the One whom he served faithfully until the end.
We ask for your continued prayers:
“During my visit to Bologna five years ago, I was blessed to spend some moments in prayer before the tomb of Saint Dominic. I prayed in a special way for the Order of Preachers, imploring for its members the grace of perseverance in fidelity to their founding charism and to the splendid tradition of which they are heirs. In thanking the Saint for all the good that his sons and daughters accomplish in the Church, I asked, as a particular gift, for a considerable increase of priestly and religious vocations.”
