“Commitment to the social frontiers of justice and peace in a synodal key.” With this spirit, the 2024 Meeting of Young Dominicans took place from Octuber 25th to 27th, organized by the Dominican Sisters of the Holy Name of Jesus in the province of Tucumán at the Yerba Buena campus of Santa Rosa School. The event brought together 400 young people from the Congregation’s schools in Rosario, Hersilia, Santa Fe, Buenos Aires, Santiago del Estero, Monteros, and Tucumán, and was held in commemoration of the centennial of Fr. Ángel María Boisdron’s passing, OP, the founder of the Congregation.
During the gathering, presentations and experiences were shared, along with moments for conversation and exchange between different groups of young people. Activities included prayer spaces, liturgical celebrations, workshops, recreational proposals, and an ecological intervention aimed at promoting reforestation, raising awareness about caring for our common home, and fostering environmental commitment. These activities also encouraged mutual understanding, seeing themselves as social actors, building self-confidence, and realizing their full human potential while orienting their lives through the mission of Jesus.
Participants exchanged insights about youth volunteer projects in which Dominican youth are involved, deepening their understanding of the Christian dimension and Dominican charism. The cultural night featured the Christian music group “Toco para Dios,” demonstrating that it is possible to live and share the Gospel through everyday joy. The meeting concluded with a community mural expressing desires and commitments to be a synodal Church, reaching out and serving humanity’s needs. The celebration of the Eucharist allowed the sisters to give thanks for this gathering that fills them with hope and inspires them to continue walking alongside the youth.
The event received support and collaboration from organizations, institutions, and individuals who generously contributed to the project. The sisters particularly expressed gratitude to ACN (Aid to the Church in Need) and the Pontifical Commission for Latin America for their valuable support, inviting others to join their mission in the service of the Church and evangelization.
