The Leonine Commission is a team of researchers responsible for preparing the critical edition of the complete works of St. Thomas Aquinas. Established by Pope Leo XIII in 1879 and entrusted to the Order of Preachers, the Commission’s mission is to provide readers with the full body of the Angelic Doctor’s writings in Latin texts that are as close as possible to the originals.
The editors of the Leonine Commission also reconstruct successive revisions made by Aquinas himself, as well as the history of the transmission of his texts down to the present day. Prepared according to the principles of textual criticism, the Latin editions published by the Commission are recognized throughout the world as the standard reference for the works of St. Thomas.
The introductions to the volumes, now written in modern languages, together with the critical and source apparatus, are significant scholarly contributions in their own right. They explain the formation and transmission of each text, the editorial principles used for the various works, and the methods for documenting Aquinas’ sources and reception. These volumes are essential for researchers, specialists and students who wish to work with the authentic texts of the Common Doctor.
For the first time, all available titles, apart from the most recent publication, are being offered at an 80% discount. The offer was first made on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of Aquinas’ death and the eighth centenary of his birth, and has now been extended until June 30, 2026, in honor of the 800th anniversary of his birth.
This is a unique opportunity to enrich the libraries of institutions and individuals alike, especially philosophers, theologians, historians and all those devoted to the study of St. Thomas Aquinas.
